Passing NMDCAT is Mandatory to Get Admission
In August 2021, the Supreme Court of Pakistan in CP No.4944 read its decision under the section 18 (1) of Pakistan Medical Commission Act 2020 "Only those students who have passed the NMDCAT according to the result issued by Pakistan Medical Commission can get admission to any Medical and Dental college or university." All Medical and Dental colleges have to follow the above mentioned statement. The admission process in Medical and Dental colleges will be proceeded as per the above directions of PMC.
Authority to Set Passing Marks of NMDCAT
According to the Section 13(c) of Pakistan Medical Commission Act 2020, only two entities, the National Medical and Dental Academic Board and the Medical and Dental Council have the clear cut authority to decide a best standard and passing marks for NMDCAT. No other person or organization has authority to change and fluctuate the set standard and passing marks for NMDCAT.
Passing Marks for NMDCAT 2021 Announced by PMC
The minimum passing marks for NMDCAT 2021 are 137 which is 65%. A student whose percentage in NMDCAT 2021 is 65% will be awarded the Pass Certificate from PMC. Any student who has not given the Pass Certificate from PMC is not permitted to get admission in any Medical and Dental college. Pakistan Medical Commission will not register the students who have not qualified NMDCAT even if they illegally admitted in any Medical and Dental college. The students without having passing marks in NMDCAT should get admission in Medical and Dental college at their own risk and cost. Such students don't have any right to admission and regularization.
Strict Action Against Violating Medical and Dental Colleges
PMC will take strict penal and legal actions against the Medical or Dental colleges which will give admissions to students who have not passed the NMDCAT. The accreditation and registration of the Medical and Dental colleges which will admit the students having percentage below than 65% in NMDCAT will be cancelled. The Medical and Dental colleges which fail to follow the mentioned admission process or go against PMC admission policy will be subjected to strict legal actions.
Granting of MBBS or BDS Degree
According to the Section 18(2) of PMC Act 2020, any student who has not qualified the NMDCAT exam with passing percentage will not be awarded the MBBS or BDS degree in Pakistan. Even if a student who hasn't passed the NMDCAT, gets admission illegally to a Medical or Dental college, he would not be granted an MBBS or BDS degree at the end. So, PMC will not give the licence of Medical or Dental practitioner in Pakistan to the students who have not qualified the NMDCAT.
