Introduction to Cell Structure and Function
We are going towards the 1st topic of PMC NMDCAT. This topic is about Cell Structure and Function and the Chapter 4 of FSC includes its contents. So we will see how significant the topic is from the point of view of NMDCAT and what are its learning outcomes.
Learning Outcomes of Cell Structure and Function
First of all, let's move on to learning outcomes and discuss which sub topics we have to study within this topic or chapter. First we will learn about the Microscope. What are the types of Microscope and which differences are present in them? Then we will compare Animal and Plant Cell. Then we will move towards the Fluid Mosaic Model of Plasma Membrane. We will learn about structure and chemical composition of Plasma Membrane. Then we will discuss the different functions of Plasma Membrane. And one of the important functions that we have to study is that how transportation of different substances takes place across Cell Membrane. After this we will review the details of Eukaryotic Cell Structure. In this we will look at different Organelles including non membranous, single membranous and double membranous. The last sub topic of this chapter is the comparison between Eukaryotic and Prokaryotic Cell. So these are all learning outcomes of PMC NMDCAT Topic 1, Cell Structure and Function.
Importance of Cell Structure and Function
If we look at the importance of this topic in terms of exams, then you have these different topics in this chapter and from 2017 to 2019, when, from which topic, how many questions came, look at them. From Microscope, one question came in 2018 and 2019. From Animal and Plant Cell Comparison, 1 question came up in 2017 and no question has been asked since. One question was asked from the plasma membrane in 2019 and two questions were asked from the nucleus in the 2017 Retake. If we look at the ribosomes, it is consistently asked from 2017 to 2019. One question was asked in 2017, three questions in 2017 Retake, two questions in 2018 and one question in 2019 from topic Ribosomes. From the Endoplasmic Reticulum and Golgi Apparatus, the question came up once in 2018 and 2019. One question was asked in 2017 Retake and one question was taken in 2018 from Lysosomes. Similarly, if we go to vacuole, one of the questions asked in 2018. Cytoskeleton is included in syllabus but no questions were asked from 2017 to 2019. One question was taken from Centrioles in 2018 and one question from Chloroplast in 2019. Mitochondria is again consistent. One question in 2017, two questions in 2017 Retake, one question in 2018 and one question in 2019 came out from Mitochondria. Similarly, two questions were asked in 2017 and 2019 from Eukaryotic and Prokaryotic Cell Comparison.
